Eagles Ex Nelson Agholor Tabbed One of The 'Most Misunderstood' in Franchise History
In a recent episode of the the "Green Light with Chris Long" podcast, retired defensive end Chris Long engaged in a conversation with former teammate and current Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce.
During their talk, Long inquired about which player Kelce believed to be among the most misunderstood on the Eagles' roster and deserving of greater fan appreciation.
Long cited former Eagles receiver Nelson Agholor, who is currently with the Baltimore Ravens, as an example of a player who, in his opinion, perfectly embodied the description of being misunderstood by fans.
"Poor guy drops the ball; then he's a meme because the guy [on the news]," Long said.
In agreement, Kelce expressed his support for Agholor, emphasizing that he believed Agholor to be a talented player and commending the Eagles' decision to draft him in 2015. Kelce further remarked that despite Agholor's challenging time with the team, there were no doubts about his work ethic.
"He tried to get better. I mean, he was on the jugs machine non-stop," Kelce said. "There wasn't a lack of effort or want to. I really, really enjoyed Nelson as a teammate, even though there were some drops, but as a teammate, I don't think anybody can question that."
Kelce continued by highlighting that Agholor's career was not solely defined by seasons filled with dropped passes. He specifically praised Agholor's exceptional performance in 2017, describing him as "phenomenal" that year. Kelce also acknowledged that Agholor has succeeded with the Las Vegas Raiders and the New England Patriots since his time with the Eagles.
Throughout his tenure in Philadelphia, which spanned five seasons, Agholor posted 2,575 receiving yards, 18 touchdowns, and 11.2 yards per catch.
Supporting Kelce's perspective, it is worth noting that despite a 59.9 percent catch rate over his Eagles' career, Agholor finished the 2017 and 2018 seasons with catch rates of 65.3 percent and 66 percent, respectively. These statistics demonstrate Agholor's ability to perform at a higher level during specific periods, providing further context to Kelce's defense of his former teammate.
And of course, Agholor is a Super Bowl champion. He posted a team-high nine catches (11 targets) for 84 yards in Philly's 41-33 win over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII, helping the Eagles secure their first title in franchise history.
